Run A Virtual Game for CONvergence Gaming

Would you like to run any kind of game on a virtual platform (Boardgame Arena, Roll20, Tabletopia, etc.) during CONvergence Online?  If so, we want to get you players!Connie as a heroclix

Please send the following information to CONvergence Gaming!

  • Preferred day/time slot (from the list below) and expected duration of your game
    • August 20st and 21st – 6:00pm, 8:00pm, 10:00pm
    • August 22nd – every 2 hours on the even hours, from 10:00am-10:00pm (Last slot begins at 10:00pm)
    • August 23rd – 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 4:00pm
  • Number of seats at your virtual “table”
  • Platform you’re planning on using (Preferred platforms below) plus a Discord or other audio server if needed
    • Roll20 for RPGs
    • Boardgame Arena for tabletop games
  • Title and description of your game.  This way, we can put the information out and get folks who might be interested in gaming to sign up for your games.

When you create your event on your chosen platform:

  • Please make it invite-only (players will be sent to the GM to request invitations)
  • You may want to post on the CONvergence Discourse forums (https://discourse.convergence-con.org) that you’re running a game!
  • Please be sure one of the invitees is gaming@convergence-con.org. Someone from CONvergence gaming will be online and available to pop into games, and we may pop in to monitor content and game environment, much like we walk around and periodically poke our noses into the gaming rooms at the convention to make sure everything’s running smoothly.
  • If you’re planning on using a platform that has limited or no voice communication, and you will also be using a Discord or other chat server, please include that in the game invitation and make sure someone from CONvergence Gaming can join.
  • If your game will contain adult or mature content (by the same rules we follow at the convention), please let us know so we can mark it as such.
  • If your chosen platform has a captioning option, please use it to help make gaming accessible to everyone.

Please contact CONvergence gaming if you have any questions about running a virtual game for CONvergence online.

Host A Virtual CONvergence Party

We believe the party format is important to emphasize we are still a community, even if we can’t be together in person. We are looking for people who love to host social events to host virtual CONvergence parties on August 21st and 22nd!

Please use the Online Party Sign Up form to submit your virtual party.

Virtual parties can be things like:

  • Jackbox or other open web games
  • Meetups in MMO games or games with open servers
  • Trivia
  • Karaoke
  • Open-mic storytelling or poetry
  • Themed video chats on all things fandom-related
  • Cosplay role-play
  • Other creative ideas!

All parties must be PG13 and you can host them anywhere of your choosing, including:

  • Zoom
  • Google Meetings
  • Facebook Video
  • Other platforms with streaming

We strongly encourage you to do what you can to make your virtual party accessible to Deaf and hard of hearing people, and people with hearing loss. Some platforms offer auto-captioning, for example.

Please contact CONvergence Parties if you have any questions about hosting or attending a virtual CONvergence party.

More About CONvergence Online

Visit the CONvergence Online page for more information about CONvergence Online!

CONvergence now has an online content community, located at discourse.convergence-con.org. Going forward, this will be where to find links to ongoing online content, and discussion  about—well, all kinds of stuff you’d get to talk about if you were at a con! The Discourse site is in addition to our current online social media communities.

Currently you can sign up and sign in in one of three ways:

  • If you know the email address and password you used to register for the convention, you can use those by saying ‘Use CONvergence Portal.’
  • If you have a Google account, you can use that.
  • You can just supply an email address and password.
  • In the future, we’ll also make it easy to sign in with Facebook and Twitter accounts.
