CONvergence 2014: Midsummer’s Night Dream/Urban Fantasy. What a great name. But what does it mean?!
Put simply, Urban Fantasy is when Fantasy cross into a “Real World” situation. Vampires in Chicago, Magic practitioners having a subculture along side of “muggles”, Gargoyles taking care of children in the park, Death just trying to get by working in a coffee shop for spending money.
The website UrbanFantasyLand.net is an excellent reference for a much deeper exploration of this theme and you are encouraged to visit their talk about the term at UrbanFantasyLand.net/welcome or look over the collected list of books at UrbanFantasyLand.net/books.
Due to an unfortunate delay as the Double Tree switched reservations systems, the request process will not be able to go live until November. We will post the date as soon as some details are finalized. Thank you for your patience.
Please email us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Wow! The registration department had an outstanding day in dealing with the large crowds who came to pick up their badges.
The new system worked very well, we had no problems with any outages and our registration times in the early part of the day were 22 badges every 10 minutes.
By the afternoon we increased the number of kiosks from 4 to 12 and were able to speed up the times to 65 badges every 10 minutes.
This was a record for the number of badges handed out on opening day, even after being open for pre-badge pick up yesterday.
In total we handed out 5085 badges.
Special thanks go out to all the volunteers who worked over 16 hours today in both the Registration department and the Nerf Herders department.
Thank you to everyone for you patience as you waited in line, to Vilification Tennis for entertaining everyone and to the volunteers who handed out water those who waited.
At certain points during the day the line broke out into rounds of “99 Bottles” and “The Star Spangled Banner”.
We are very happy how well everything went considering this incredible turn out.
Registration will re-open again tomorrow at 9am and is open until 11pm.

The CONvergence Hotel Team wants everyone to please be aware that 494 heading west (from the airport to the Double Tree) is being worked on and my be down to one or two lanes. Please plan accordingly and possibly take and alternate route.
Throughout the course of the week-end, Consuite needs help. Please contact [email protected]. If that address doesn’t work, please send to [email protected].
From the CONvergence Hotel Team: The resealing of the parking lot is going well and all projections say they will be done by early afternoon Wednesday – at least in the major portions of the parking lot. We applaud the Double Tree staff for their efforts to complete this project before we arrive en masse.
Regarding the directionals of pool side, we apologize for not clarifying sooner, but yes, the areas in front of Consuite, COF2E2 and Ops and Connie’s Space Lounge WILL be bidirectional. It is the “hallways” in front of the cabanas and rooms that are one way.
And as always, please email [email protected] with any questions.
