CONvergence 2010 MainStage Events
MainStage is where the convention officially begins and ends with Opening and Closing Ceremonies, but bookmarks all kinds of fascinating and sinister entertainment in-between. Our fiendish repertoire for the year includes not only favorites from the past, but exciting new shows and surprises to get your frown turned wholly into its appropriate evil sneer.
Here’s a warning of what we’ve got in store for you:
After the Opening Ceremony of Thursday Night, we’re happy to bring you the Vaude-Villains Cabaret and Variety Show, featuring black light skeleton body balancing, songs about our favorite cartoon anti-heroes, dances from our favorite femme fatales, a belly-dance act meant to entrance and hypnotize the audience (so they can program you to do their bidding), and so much more.
After the Vaude-Villains are vanquished from the stage, we’re very pleased to introduce the boss villain for the evening, Voltaire! Combining beautiful old-world melodies with viciously sarcastic lyrics, Wagnerian bravado with Brechtian allure, Voltaire has crafted songs of love, loss, revenge and dismemberment sure to bring a smile to even the darkest of souls. In addition to live performances and the "Brains" song from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Voltaire has been responsible for the animation of various Hieronymous Bosch-inspired station IDs for MTV. Read more, hear music clips, and see animation at www.voltaire.net.
Late night Thursday we’ll continue the sinister theme and bring our best dark and spooky DJs out to dish our industrial, darkwave, and all-around eeeevil music until the bats go home.
For Friday Night, we’re still determining just how much mayhem we can bring to the stage without causing a small implosion in the localized mischief continuum. Rest assured, there will be antics, and we’re happy to let you in on the little secret that Vilification Tennis will be returning to MainStage. Though not for everyone, their late-night show always packs the house and is sure to make even the stoutest of ears cringe.
After our stage programming, we’ll reset the room and get you ready to boogie with retro-inspired and classic dance music until the wee hours.
Saturday, of course, is the night of CONvergence’s central event of tantalizing trickery, the world-notorious Masquerade. Whilst an event not to be missed in-person, we’re happy to announce that Masquerade will again be simulcast on CVG-TV for those unable to find seats in the ballroom. Additionally, we’ve got a halftime show planned that is not to be missed.
Once Masquerade is done, we’ll once again get ready to give you a chance to get your dance on. The Saturday dance always begins with an hour of strobe-free science fiction inspired dance music, and afterwards we hope to party with you all night!
