Silent Auction, Theater Nippon, and Volunteers Updates
Silent Auction Update
CONvergence will again be holding a Silent Auction to benefit our parent organization MISFITS. Thanks to the generosity of the CONvergence Membership in both donations and bidding , the 2002 Silent Auction generated $1,700 to help fund the many programs and events that MISFITS sponsors throughout the year. Thank you to all that participated.
We would strive to do even better this year. To that end, we will be posting pictures of items donated to the upcoming Silent Auction on the CONvergence web site. There you will be able to preview items that will be available for your bidding at the 2003 convention.
We are always on the lookout for more cool stuff like signed collectibles, fan and science fiction memorabilia to add to the auction. We are also looking for supplies for the action itself such as gallon milk jugs, easels and plastic poster frame covers. If you have something you would like to donate or would like more information about the auction, e-mail Silent Auction organizer Judy Byers at auction@convergence-con.org.
Bids on items in the auction will be accepted Friday and Saturday at the convention. Winners will be posted and items can be picked up in Atrium 1 on Sunday.
Theater Nippon Update
Theater Nippon is back! We have a super bright high definition widescreen video projector and a THX Surround Sound system this year. We're working on bringing both cutting edge and classic Anime to CONvergence 2002. The Theater Nippon team is still working on the screening list for this year. Have a suggestion? Something you think we should screen? Let us know! We can't show it if we don.t know you want it!
Are you looking for ways of getting that swanky CONvergence volunteer button or T-Shirt? Like to sit on your rump watching TV? Theater Nippon always has needs before, during and after the con. Just write in Theater Nippon on your CONvergence registration, or contact us online.
Volunteers Update
You probably already know it. You may be sick of hearing it. But it's still true. Volunteers are the lifeblood of a convention like ours. They get the chips out in Consuite, fetch your badge in Registration, help you find your lost child, sit that terrific Buffy panel...you get the idea.
If you haven't volunteered before, you're missing out on half the fun of throwing this huge party: Getting to take some of the credit for it.
Volunteering can take as much or as little time as you want, fit into YOUR schedule (you don't have to miss that killer Guest of Honor panel!), and even earns you a collectible button and an invite to our Volunteer Appreciation Party.
The hot spots for volunteering? We always need Badgers, Wandering Hosts for Ops, Consuite staffers, and help setting up and tearing down.
As the convention draws closer, department heads will start contacting volunteers for convention schedule: Set up, at-con and tear-down. Want to make sure you're notified of volunteer opportunities? You can reach us through our web site, e-mail, voicemail or our PO Box. Aren't sure where to help? The Volunteers Department itself is always in need of help, for staffing the Volunteers Table, badging, and running errands. Check in at the convention to sign up for your shift!
