What is the Space Lounge?
Connie's Space Lounge is a unique space created to give convention attendees a spacey place to chill out. We're all about atmosphere and participation- we want you to forget you're in a hotel and remind you that Your Future Lies in Space! We've got comfy places to lounge around, experimental music, video projections, games, interactive art, and a smoothie bar. If it glows in the dark or beeps, you'll find it here!
Where is the Space Lounge?
Connies Space Lounge happily returns to the second floor in Verandas 6 and 8.
When are you open?
Connies Space Lounge happily returns to the second floor in Verandas 6 and 8, right next to the Bridge. We open Thursday night after Opening Ceremonies until about 2am, and again on both Firday and Saturday from 12:00pm until about 2am.
Last year there was a big white dome in the room. What is that about, and will it be there this year?
The Sensorium is our experimental audio-visual surround-sound environment. It will be returning this year with new sound collages and video for you to enjoy! A tip: because we are directly adjacent to the Mainstage and there's often sound bleed, the best times to enjoy the full Sensorium experience are when there are quieter things happening next door.
I took some photos of myself in your photo booth, where can I find those?
We uploaded those pictures to our flikr account, at http://www.flickr.com/photos/spacelounge. See the pictures from 2006 or 2007.
Do you need volunteers?
Thanks for asking! YES! It takes a lot of work to get the Space Lounge into orbit. We especially like help setting up and tearing down. If you need volunteer hours to pick up your badge early, come see us! We're conveniently located near the Bridge, and we'll do our best to put you to work! During the con, we're always looking for smoothie bartenders.
Do you need anyone with special talents or equipment?
If you do face painting or body painting, come visit us, and make some CON-goers glow! We haven't been able to do this ourselves- we just get too busy during the con! Also, if you have an act for the Cabaret, come and sign up in Space Lounge.
I'm a dj/electronic musician/vj/etc. Can I perform in the Space Lounge?
We're always looking for new performers! It would help if we knew a little about what you do, first. You can contact spacelounge@convergence-con.org. We are a space mostly for experimental electronic music, though we're always open to suggestions.
Great! If I play in the Space Lounge, that means I get paid or at least get in free to the con, right?
Nope. This is a volunteer-run organization. You will get at least a volunteer hour, which gets you an invitation to the volunteer party, and likely some cool glowy swag from us, but you won't get in free and we unfortunately can't afford to pay our artists. If you want to play, but you don't want to see the con, we can give you a badge for just access to the Lounge, though you'll be excluded from the rest of the official convention. We highly recommend registering! Everyone who puts on the con also pays to attend the con, including the convention committee and even the board of directors.
Hey, cool, smoothies! Those have vodka in 'em, right?
Nope. While we're not a dry Con, we choose not to spend official convention budget on alcohol. We don't have the license, and besides, we found out that lots of kids like our smoothies just fine the way they are (and we do too!) It shouldn't be hard to find something "extra" for your drink on your own if you do some searching, and we don't mind if you bring your own.
