CONvergence Volunteering

NOW, FOR A LIMITED TIME, EXPERIENCE THE FUN AND EXCITEMENT OF A FOUR DAY CONVENTION THROUGH THE EYES OF A VOLUNTEER!

CONvergence Needs You. WE need you to make a difference and to make this four-day, tenth year anniversary convention a success! We can’t do it without you! And you would be surprised at how EASY and FUN volunteering can be. And you can make it fit around your convention schedule!

Easy! Just let us know that you want to volunteer and we'll take it from there. (If there's something you've always wanted to help with, let us know that too!). The sooner we know you are interested the sooner we can put you to work, er, utilize your skills and creativity. If you didn’t remember to send us an email and still want to volunteer at the con, just stop by the Volunteers Table in CONvergence Central and we can let you know where you're needed! If you already know that you're a creature of the night, let our 24 hour departments know! (Consuite, CoF2E2, Theatre Nippon, Operations and Volunteers)

Fun! Not only do you get the opportunity to see everything the convention has to offer, and from a comfy chair or central location but you get the added feeling and knowledge that you helped make it all happen.

Rewarding! The more volunteers we have at the beginning of a convention the smoother and more fun the overall convention experience for not just you, but for all of your fellow con-goers, as well.

You may be asking yourself, "...and it doesn't have to take up the entire weekend??" Of course not! An hour here or there, when you're tired of snacking in Consuite, you've already seen the movie in Cinema Rex and you've spent your allowance in the Dealers Room. Those hours add up, and each one of them is very welcome. Whether you do one hour or one hundred hours, any amount of time is helpful to the success of the convention as a whole!

And if you are still unsure as to this being fun, just remember that every person working at this convention; running departments, judging contests, telling people where to go, putting on programs; is also a volunteer. None of us get paid to do this, except in the fun we share with you through the weekend. We think it's fun, and we would really like you to have the opportunity to share in that.

If you've asked to be contacted but haven't been yet - please give us one more try and contact the Volunteers Department.

Volunteers Needs Volunteers!

In addition to the regular volunteering we usually ask for, this year, the Volunteers Department is looking for help running the Volunteers Desk at the convention, as well as Sub-heads. Duties include: talking to people, helping them get signed up for a volunteering shift, pointing them in the right direction, answering questions, laughing, and being at the heart of the convention. Does this sound like fun? It is!

It's almost a given that one of us will have brought some food to share too.

And now, the goodies!

What physical appreciation do we show our volunteers?

  1. Every volunteer gets a Volunteer Button. These attractive buttons are unique to each convention year and highly collectible! And only volunteers get them!
  2. The X-Treme Volunteer (tm) who volunteers 15 hours or more gets a Volunteer T-shirt. Also unique to each convention year, this goodie marks out the truly insane.
  3. EVERY volunteer is invited to the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party. This party is held AFTER the convention, when you can actually stop to notice it. It's our chance to get you all together in one place again to deliver a personal "thank you" - and then feed you, let you socialize, tell stories, and soak in a hot tub.
  4. AND all volunteers have the opportunity to pick up their badge on Thursday night before the convention as a special "thanks" (and a way to free up more at-con time for volunteering!). There are a few things to know about this:
    A. you must be pre-registered to pick up your badge Thursday night. No at-the-door registrations.
    B. you must be a volunteer to pick up your badge.
    • If you've already done some volunteering, just get a quick note signed by the department head (an email works too) saying you volunteered for that department.
    • If you haven't yet volunteered, we will have Volunteer sign-up sheets in Registration for you! Just sign up for a shift or two and then walk over to pick up your badge!

Thanks for Volunteering! See you at the convention!

let us know you want to volunteer and we'll take it from there.
