2000 Archive: Guests
Our guests had a really good time at CONvergence 2000, and we had a great time with them. We would like to thank all of them for being so willing to share their time with our members and for the kind things they had to say about our convention.
Neil Gaiman
What can we say about Neil? We really appreciate the fact that he went out of his way to do his Harlan Ellison impression after Jeremy mentioned it in the program book. He dominated every panel he was on. Not out of rudeness, but because when he starts talking, people just sit back in awe. They must be thinking that if they don't interrupt, he will go on forever. We are glad that he found time to get out and have some Sushi over the weekend as well.
Regina Pancake
Regina had a great time at the convention and a lot of people were happy to attend her panels and listen to what it's like to make props for major motion pictures. She even brought some fun little toys along for us to fondle. On Saturday night, she was partying with the rest of the convention on the party floor. On Sunday, some of us had the chance to have dinner with her before she left and we got to hear a bunch of stories that we aren't allowed to repeat. Hopefully Regina will come back soon and share those stories with a few more people.
Ruth Thompson
"I'm coming back next year!" — Ruth Thompson at closing ceremonies
Ruth was all over the convention and may be one of our biggest fans. She bought a few pieces at the art auction, critiqued the art of any artist who wanted it, and even found time to boogie on the dance floor Saturday night. She took the time to compliment us on how intelligent our con-goers were and said that she really enjoyed sitting panels at our convention. Ruth really was great and we loved having her.
Keith Topping
"I'm bringing room parties back to England!" — Keith Topping at closing ceremonies
(At least that's what we think he said; he was talking pretty fast!)
Keith spent most evenings at the Whoniversity room party talking to anyone who came by. He promised us that if he sells a book this year, he will be back for CONvergence 2001. He admitted that he gushed like a little fan boy when he sat a panel with Neil Gaiman, but other than that he handled himself quite well.
Peg Kerr
"I would like to thank the committee for finding my car." - Peg Kerr at closing ceremonies
Despite all the panels we had her sitting, Peg found the time to read all of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Saturday night. We were very impressed. She really handled things well, including a panel Friday where none of her other panelists managed to make it. Aside from a minor crisis involving her car, she had a great weekend. Thanks for coming, Peg!
Cast and Crew of Go To Hell!
With a showing of Go To Hell! on Friday, everyone was extra excited to talk to these guys, and they delivered. It's not often that you get a chance to see people who actually made a movie (low budget or not), so their panels were pretty well attended. We hope that you had a chance to talk to these guys if for no other reason that to learn how to make things explode on a budget.
