Programming FAQ

Q: How does CONvergence Programming work?

A: CONvergence runs with a "campus" model for programming, and survey results have said that you like this model. We hope to do better every year, so we are continuing to fine-tune and tweak that model to fit the needs of each CONvergence. We have a "campus" approach (programming broken out into several tracks, with most of the programming for a specific track in a specific room), as well as the format of 60-minute panels separated by 30-minute breaks for setup, breakdown, discussion spill-over, etc.

Q: What kind of panels will you allow?

A: The focus of our convention is Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature and Media. Our programming tracks are Movies, TV, Literature, Art, Comics, Anime, Gaming, Projects, Science and Technology, and a general Hotdish panel. Any panel that fits within these umbrellas is acceptable. As an example: A panel on Astrology would not fit into these parameters, but a panel on the use of astrology within the writings of Piers Anthony would. To further clarify the definition of "Fantasy" - we are referring to the literary definition or "Swords and Sorcerers". All panels are expected to maintain a PG-13 rating. More mature programming topics will be explicity labeled as such and will typically be scheduled later on in the evenings.

Q: How many programming events will there be at CONvergence?

A: We run panels from noon Thursday until about 6pm Sunday. We try to have panels both during the day and at night, and will frequently have multiple panels going on at the same time. There will be a wide variety of panels to choose from at any particular time, and we try to make sure that we manage a variety of interests.

Q: When does the yearly programming season kick off?

A: We typically have a kick-off meeting in mid November. Anyone can participate and it's at this meeting that the majority of our panel ideas are generated. For more information email programming@convergence-con.org
